Peter Jackson has created some of the most amazing effects ever put on film. But unlike so many filmmakers today, he never forgets that they're all in service of the story.
The Two Towers is a war parable; one of the best and most moving I've seen.
This is my favourite out of the 3, it wasn't overly boring like the third.
The second part of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy sees the fellowship part company. Frodo and Sam encounter Gollum, cleverly presented as a kind of wretched schizophrenic drug addict which makes for a much more interesting character dynamic than the "You're my best friend Sam! "I love you Mr. Frodo!" of the first film. Meanwhile Pippin and Merry escape their captors and persuade the forest dwelling Ent to join the fight in a rather ham-fisted eco analogy. And finally Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli whose camaraderie is developed find new allies in Rohan and rejoin Gandalf to defend the fortress of Helm's Deep in a quite spectacular and monumental battle sequence. Although The Two Towers is as long as The Fellowship Of The Ring, the intertwining story threads, all told in parallel complete with a liberal dose of action make for much better pacing. I still have a problem with stories reliant on magic because if characters can come back to life for no reason other than it's convenient to the plot or can just say "Abracadabra" and make danger, and therefore suspense, disappear makes for little in the way of narrative logic. I also felt that Saruman got far too little screen time which left a focal villain lacking, but in this film Jackson has made a fantasy film I not only endured, but enjoyed.
Quick Review:
The Two Towers continues The Lord of the Rings saga. Director Peter Jackson executes in this follow-up perfectly. This film is just as memorable and breathtaking as the first one. With the first film setting the stage for the story, The Two Towers was able to open up and was a little more deeper and darker than it's predecessor.
One of the many highlights in this film was the comedic, but strong bond of friendship between Gimli the Dwarf and Legolas the Elf.
The greatest achievement in this film was the epic Battle at Helms Deep. This is hands down the greatest fantasy battle scene in cinematic history. It was dark and gritty... you could literally feel the fear those brave fighters felt. It was inspiring and one of the most heroic moments in the entire saga.
This spectacular sequel is a great installment to the greatest trilogy ever made.
Gimli: [failing to see over the wall] "What's happening out there?
Legolas: Shall I describe it to you?
Gimli: [turns] Hmm?
Legolas: Or would you like me to find you a box?"
[Gimli laughs]
Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee continue on to Mount Doom in Mordor. They discover the pathetic Gollum, the former owner of the Ring, following them and he agrees to guide them, although they cannot be sure whether he can be trusted. At the same time Frodo struggles against the influence the Ring is having on him. Meanwhile the other hobbits, Merry Brandybuck and Pippin Took, escape capture by Saruman's Uruk-Hai and flee into Fangorn Forest where they are found by the giant tree people, the Ents. The remaining members of the Fellowship, Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas, pursuing Merry and Pippin, find Gandalf alive. They travel to Rohan where Gandalf frees the aging King Theoden from the poison influence of Saruman's agent Grima Wormtongue. As the orcs ravage the lands, Theoden moves his people to safety at the great fortress of Helm's Deep. However Saruman has raised an army of 10,000 and marches on Helm's Deep. With only three hundred to defend against the horde, Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas throw their weight in with a battle to save mankind that is doomed to almost certain failure. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers by contrast spreads the story out across the land, splits the party up and tells three disparate strands of story.
Gimli: "Oh come on, we can take 'em.
Aragorn: It's a long way.
Gimli: Toss me.
Aragorn: What?
Gimli: I cannot jump the distance, you'll have to toss me.
[pauses, looks up at Aragorn]
Gimli: Don't tell the elf.
Aragorn: Not a word."
The magnificently dark and brooding Viggo Mortensen really starts to come into his own. All the supporting characters from the Fellowship start to mature as characters- especially Merry and Pippin who were played for comedy in the first film and are treated more seriously this time around. John Rhys-Davies becomes a considerable comic scene-stealer as Gimli, while Sean Astin, somewhat colourless in the first film, emerges with appreciable strength as more of the dutiful and loyal Sam. Jackson introduces us to the geography of the fortress before Saruman's huge army approaches with thundering noise. The vista is amazing and the battle will keep you on the edge of your seat. As in Fellowship, the backgrounds are stunning. New Zealand once again becomes Middle Earth.
The best sctript, direction, conceptual Design, miniture work, CGI, acting, stunt team, battle scenes, color grading, make-up and costume. I think that might cover it lol :)

I think the Two Towers stayed true to the book as well as it could without having it be too long. They made the movie enjoyable for people who have and haven't read the books.
The best part of an amazing trilogy.
Peter Jackson set a new standard for films that still to this day none come close.
Harry potter only whish's to be LOTR.
The best movie to come from a book.
One movie to rule them all.
