Depp for Riddler and Seymour Hoffman for Penguin in Dark Knight sequel?

Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker has set the bar high for Gotham City villains, but reports in the US say studio bosses have set their sights on Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.

"Producers are convinced that the role of The Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny's a pro. He'll be able to take direction and still make the character his own. And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman?" a source said.

They could be joining Angelina Jolie - the actress is reported to be after the role of Catwoman.

The Riddler was played by Jim Carrey in 1995 film Batman Forever and Frank Gorshin in the Sixties television series. As for The Penguin, he was portrayed on the small screen by Burgess Meredith and in 1992 film Batman returns by Danny DeVito.

Plans for the sequel are yet to be announced but it is likely to star Christian Bale reprising his role as The Caped Crusader.

I only wish Pinguin is not involved...I prefer Riddle in this case. Depp will be perfect, but also, the character needs to be DARK/SCARY/CREEPY so it can be worth to watch. When I saw Scarecrow/Crane, Ras, Two-Face and Joker, I knew one thing: They were better cause they were darker and creepy. Thats the look on the villains this year. And they should keep that look on the new villains they will put on that 3rd Batman movie, cause its a 3rd not a sequel, cause Batman Begins goes first, then the sequel THE DARK KNIGHT. So...I think a dark version of Riddle should go perfect on Depp...a Sweeny Todd peraphs? I defenetly cant wait for Nolan's choice!

I'm fine with Depp as The Riddler and Hoffman as The Penguin. But leave Jolie and Catwoman both out of the third in this spectacular Batman series.

I love Johnny Depp but i think Jim Carrey should play the riddler again. He did a great job in Batman Forever.

anything but cher as catwoman, i think depp would do a good job as the riddler, i also think they should put a powerful villain in it like clayface or bane.

Depp as the riddler, definatly! I havent seen Phillip Seymour Hoffman in anything so I don't know about that. Please no catwoman, it would be ridiculous! I think they should go for a character who has never been done like Scarface or Killer Croc. I think scarface is the puppet guy, Tom Hanks for that, he would be great! The only problem with creatures like Killer Croc is that how would they make that believable? Also Man-Bat! But there is a huge list of characters they could use!

Theres a really awesome fan art pic online of David Tennant (the Doctor currently on Doctor Who) and Kristen Bell as Harley Quinn. Its outstanding. Its really great casting. One look at the pictures and you can see it. And I think Tennant would make a much better Riddler than Depp would.

Anyone is better for that role than Jim Carrey.

And I really don't think there should be the Penguin in the next film. He's not an interesting villain in the least. The only reason anyone likes him is because Burgess Meredith did such a great job playing him in the 1966 series. If they want to collect a rogues gallery for the next film, Riddler absolutely, Catwoman I suppose -- maybe something along the lines of Bane? Killer Croc? Nolan proved that he doesn't need to use the more reputable villains to make a killer movie. How many non-comic fans really gave any thought to Scarecrow or Ra's Al Ghul before Begins? Penguin is just so boring.

And although she wouldn't work well without Mistah J on screen, there's always yours truly...
